Buc

For many Americans who pack their families into the car for summertime pilgrimages to vacation destinations all over the country, the convenience store franchise with the furry buck-toothed mascot is a welcome and familiar sight amid long stretches of concrete and wide open space.

Based in Texas, Buc-ee’s has grown its profile with locations along interstates nationwide, but now it appears someone is seeking to expand the brand south of the border… without the company’s permission.

That became apparent when a photo of a mercado called “Buk-II’s” went viral on Facebook.

Razaaa no me lo van a creer!!!!😂😂

The store morphs the Buc-ee’s beaver into a gopher but otherwise keeps its look pretty similar to its more well-known counterpart.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but it doesn’t seem like Buc-ee’s is feeling particularly honored in a statement sent to WFAA, who reached out for a comment.

“The Buc-ee’s brand represents clean restrooms, freshly prepared food, and great service. Buc-ee’s has invested heavily in innovation across the company to create and maintain these award-winning guest experiences.Accordingly, Buc-ee’s will not stand as an idle spectator while others use without permission the intellectual property that Buc-ee’s has cultivated for decades.”

It remains to be seen what action the franchise will take in this international trademark dispute.

Buc-ee’s is expected to open its first Louisiana location in Ruston in 2025.
